The Micro Focus logo circa 1985. In 1998, the company acquired Intersolv Inc, an applications enablement business, for US$534 million and the combined business was renamed Merant. The same year the company acquired XDB Systems with their relational database management system.
In 2001 the business was demerged from Merant with help from and once again became Micro Focus. It was listed on the in 2005. In June 2008, the company acquired the Israeli listed software company for US$73.3 million. In July 2008, the company acquired the privately held Austin, Texas-based Liant Software Corporation for its RM/COBOL and PL/I product lines. Liant Software owned the assets of Ryan-McFarland Corporation, a Micro Focus competitor in the 1980s. In July 2009, the company acquired, a developer of application lifecycle management tools, as well as the Quality Solutions (including automation tool ) part of. In 2010, Micro Focus took on as its corporate broker, a role the latter continues to perform.
In 2011, the company alleged that the and other agencies were using 16,500 copies of its ViewNow software on various computers when police and other agencies were only ever entitled to 6,500 licences. The group initially alleged 10 million in damages but later increased this to A$12 million after reviewing the results of a court-ordered audit of the police force's computer systems.
The police force maintained during the court proceedings that it had paid for a site licence that entitled it to unlimited installations of the software for all of its officers. Despite this, it settled the matter out of court in 2012, for an undisclosed sum. The other agencies previously settled the matter out of court, also for undisclosed sums. In December 2013, Micro Focus acquired the Orbix, Orbacus and Artix software product lines from. These market-leading implementations of the standard were originally developed. On 19 March 2018, Micro Focus shares fell 55% to 849p after the company warned of a sharp fall in revenue; its chief executive, Chris Hsu, resigned. From the Net Express desktop (IDE) do the following. From the left window pane do a right-click on the mouse button (position the mouse-pointer to any white area in the left pane). From the drop-down list select ' Add files to project.'
The following window should be displayed. From the ' Look in:' box use the down-arrow to select the ' C: DataMig1 DataEbc1' directory. Notice the ' Recent folders:' box is refreshed as you select the drive and directories from the 'Look in:' box. Notice the Directory now appears in the ' Recent folders:' box. After selecting the directory where the file resides it will be necessary to select the proper file from the directory. Since the data files have an extension of '.DAT' perform the following from the same screen.
The following window should be displayed. Select the ' Files of type:' box and use the down-arrow to display a drop-down list. Scroll to the bottom of the drop-down list using the vertical scroll bar.
Select the ' All Files (.)' option. After selecting all file types it will be necessary to select the specific file. The following window should be displayed. Click on the ' ITEMEBC1.DAT' to select the Item Master File. After the file is selected the file name should appear in the ' File name:' box.
Note: For Indexed Files make sure to select the '.DAT' and not the '.IDX' file. Click on the ' Add' button. The following screen should be displayed. Check the ' No to all' box. Click on the ' No' button. After the preceding step is complete the Net Express Desktop (IDE) Window should be refreshed. The Net Express Desktop (IDE) Window should be displayed.
The ITEMEBC1.DAT should be shown in both the left and right window panes. Double-click on either ITEMEBC1.DAT and the Micro Focus Data File Editor should display a list of the first few records in the file. The following screen should be displayed. Use the mouse to select the first record and click on the right mouse button to show the preceding drop down list. Select the ' Show Hex' option.
The following screen with hexadecimal dump information should be displayed. By examining the hexadecimal display it is easy to determine the file is EBCDIC-encoded. Using the mouse click on the down arrow as shown in the preceding screen display. A drop-down list should be displayed.
Select the EBCDIC option. After selecting the EBCDIC option the list of records should now be displayed in a readable format. Prepare to load the structure file as shown on the following screen. From the Net Express tool bar select the ' File' option.
From the drop-down list select the ' Data Tools' option. From the context menu select the ' Load Record Layouts.'
After selecting the EBCDIC option the list of records should now be displayed in a readable format. The following screen should be displayed. If a list of structure file (.STR) is not displayed use ' Look in:' box to select the c: DataMig1 STR directory as displayed in the ' Recent folders:' box. Once the directory is selected the list of files should be displayed. Using the mouse, double-click on the ' ITEMMAST.STR' file. The following screen should be displayed. Notice the 'List of Records' is displayed in the left pane.
The selected record (highlighted in the left pane) is displayed in the right pane and is mapped to the structure file. By positioning the mouse pointer over the vertical line that separates the left and right panes the window pane sizes may be adjusted by dragging the vertical line to the left or right. The purpose of this document is to show how to add a data file to a Net Express project and then view the file using the Micro Focus Data File Editor.
